Energy Efficiency Alberta: Commercial & Residential Electrical Rebates Available Right Now

Is your organization running on traditional lighting or low-efficiency heating? Would you like to switch to a high-efficiency system, but remain dissuaded by the upfront cost?

High-efficiency lighting and heating systems are typically more expensive to purchase than traditional ones, but going high-efficiency can save you money in the long run because these products take less energy. However, you can now save on the upfront costs of updating your lighting and heating. The Alberta Government has recently implemented a rebate program to help you save money on lighting and heating upgrades in order to reduce emissions – this program is the Energy Efficiency Alberta’s Business, Non-Profit and Institutional Energy Savings Program. Electricians in Edmonton are available to help you choose new lighting and heating products that are eligible for rebates and are perfect for your needs.

Eligible Products
There are a variety of products that are eligible for rebates. Some of these products include:

  • Lighting:
    • LED interior measures
    • LED exterior measures
    • Interior controls
    • Exterior controls
    • Fluorescent measures
  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Variable frequency drives
  • Water heating
A few of the rebates you can receive include:
  • $4.00 on a large general service LED lamp
  • $12.00 on an LED exit sign
  • $40.00 on a small low, medium or high bay fixture
  • $6.00 per foot on horizontal and vertical refrigerated case lighting
  • $150.00 on a large exterior LED fixture
  • $30.00 on an interior daylight control sensor
  • $6.00 per MBH on condensing boilers
  • $140 per hp on small variable frequency drives (VFD)

We have already seen enormous savings benefits for clients who have participated in this program. One of our clients only paid $900 for $1500 worth of products after receiving their rebate – the rebate paid for 40% of their total cost.

Once electricians in Edmonton have installed the approved products, you can apply for the rebate. When you’re approved, you will receive a cheque to help cover the cost of the equipment. This way, you can invest more in your organization while reducing emissions.

Eligible Organizations
If you are a business, non-profit organization or institutional customer that is serviced by an Alberta electric utility, you are
eligible for rebates. Examples of sectors that this program targets include:

  • Institutions, such as schools, colleges, universities and hospitals
  • Co-operatives
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Common spaces in multi-unit residential buildings
  • Individual businesses

Eligible participants can apply for rebates on new products that were purchased on or after March 24, 2017. Products must meet Canadian Certification Standards or equivalent certification for product approval. The rebates that are available for this program depend on the availability of funds and distribution, so it may only be available for a limited time. It’s imperative to contact your local electricians in Edmonton to discuss your heating and lighting needs today so that you can take advantage of this cost-saving initiative.
